AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Idiom Theatre
at the Sylvia Center for the Arts
Presents:

The Norman Conquests
by Alan Ayckbourn

Directed by Evan Mueller

Project Description:
The Norman Conquests is a comic masterpiece of three parallel plays.  Each follows Norman and his failing romantic ambitions from a different, and often simultaneous, perspective – TABLE MANNERS from the dining room, LIVING TOGETHER from the living room, and ROUND AND ROUND THE GARDEN from the garden.  A feat of theatrical ingenuity, the three plays tell and retell the turbulently entertaining story with increasing nuance and humor as offstage conversations and antics from one play appear onstage in another. Each play stands on its own, but better yet, see them all, in any order, for the complete experience.

Audition Notice:
Seeking actors for all six roles in The Norman Conquests.  Actors will appear in all three plays, with performances from November 1st through 30th, including at least two ‘marathon’ performances of all three plays.  All three plays will rehearse simultaneously beginning September 1st.  Table Manners to open November 1st.  Living Together to open November 6, and Round and Round the Garden to open November 8th.  The plays will be presented on alternating days, with marathon performances on November 22 and 29.

All roles require great comic timing and a strong British dialect!

Actors will receive a stipend for their work on the Norman Conquests

Auditions will be held at the Sylvia Center for the Arts
On Saturday July 13th from 11am – 3pm
To schedule an audition, please send an email to evanmuellermay27@gmail.com with any time preference you may have, and you will receive a time slot and confirmation.  Actors without an appointment will be seen between 11:00 and 3:00 as our schedule permits.

Character Breakdown:

Norman:  (approx. 35 – 45)  Married to Ruth.  Scruffy and slightly unkempt, Funny, charming, a reputation for causing trouble, but he never acts out of malice.  Like a sheepdog, he has a boundless desire to be loved and make people happy.

Ruth:  (approx. 35 – 45)  Sister to Annie and Reg; married to Norman.  A career-driven businesswoman.  She has a caustic sense of humor, which sometimes creates tension among the family.  She’s very nearsighted, but hates to wear her glasses.  Smart, sharp, bitingly funny.

Sarah:  (approx. 35 – 45)  Married to Reg.  Bossy, fussy, and uptight, prefers to have everything done the right way (which is her way, of course).

Reg:  (approx. 35 – 45)  Married to Sarah, brother to Annie & Ruth.  An estate agent, somewhat henpecked; generally optimistic with a ‘go with the flow’ attitude.  He does his best to avoid trouble.

Annie: (approx. 30 – 40)  The ‘put upon’ younger sister of Ruth & Reg, staying at home to take care of their aging mother.  Very capable, but looking for something that matters and makes her feel special.  Like all in her family, she has a terrific sense of humor.

Tom:  (approx. 30 – 40)  The neighbor, a vet, in love with Annie but missing some of the essential social graces necessary to express himself.  He tends not to recognize irony or sarcasm.
